There was loads of drama, nearly endless spells of rain and several car retirements but ultimately, a rewarding and brilliant battle at Silverstone that marked the completion of the 2025 British Grand Prix. A historic F1 venue, the place where it all started for fans and drivers and the entire cavalcade of Formula 1 back in 1950, Silverstone has provided mega wins for F1 drivers back in the day and some amazing podium finishes, think of Hamilton's mega recovery drive of 2018, where despite all odds, he was able to break into the podium standings fighting the two Ferraris. Forget not the mega Leclerc vs Perez battle three years ago and the maiden win for Carlos Sainz jr., then with Ferrari. It's all happened here in the past. But staying true to its thrilling feats in the past, the 2025 British Grand Prix too unfurled one mega contest and if you are a fan of the Kick Sauber Team, based in Hinwil, Switzerland, then a truly unforgettable triumph. Let us look at the key talking points from the 2025 British Grand Prix.
Mega podium for Nico Hulkenberg
They say that good things come to those who wait but in Nico Hulkenberg's case, the earnest German had to wait for a really long time before finally standing on the podium to claim a maiden F1 career podium. The "Driver of the day" at the British Grand Prix began his Silverstone contest from nineteenth on the grid and yet demonstrated a brilliant, error-free drive to capture a first-ever career podium. A P3!
But it took him 239 Grands Prix to get there. How sweet and rewarding must that feel right now. The fan of the sport who has seen the able German striving all these years and putting in consistent shows couldn't be happier. A remarkable day out there despite barely drivable conditions for the soon-to-be 38-year-old German.
Brilliant maiden win at his home race for Lando Norris
Of all his seven previous race wins, none had happened, prior to the emphatic triumph in the 2025 British Grand Prix, at Silverstone. But in keeping up with his closest competitor on track, Oscar Piastri of McLaren, Norris ultimately gained from the ten second that hampered the Australian's British Grand Prix, and once the English driver got the lead of the race, he would despite treacherous driving conditions, not do anything wrong to abdicate the race lead.
Norris fought hard and cleanly managing to keep all wheels of his blitzy McLaren inside the track limits to become the first driver to cross the checkered flag and in so doing, earned his maiden British Grand Prix win. He also became the 25th driver from Great Britain to win the British Grand Prix. A feat truly well-deserved.
Tough day out for Max Verstappen
After delivering a belter of a qualifying lap, hence his pole number 44th, Max Verstappen was plagued by a car that really suffered from a horrible lack of grip. At the fastest areas of the otherwise uniquely quick Silverstone, Verstappen struggled in putting together a strong lap. His overall race pace wasn't nowhere there as compared to some of the faster cars; the constant outpouring exacerbating his already present issues.
Then, with the safety car in, with Max then in second, came the most dramatic moment of the race. Soon as the safety car withdrew from the Grand Prix, thus green signalling the resumption of racing, the driver in front, Oscar Piastri slammed his breaks at a time that unfortunately co-incided with the Safety car that only just exited (breaking hard from speeds of 215 kmph- approximately- to 53 kmph). But by that time Verstappen had almost lunged ahead. So when the Red Bull driver braked hard, he had witnessed several other cars launching ahead having resumed racing again. He fell down to tenth and consquently, fell foul of promising point scoring with Piastri too, struck with a 10-second time penalty.
Hamilton's struggling day in the field for Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton has a rather enviable record at his home track with no fewer than 15 podiums prior to entering the 2025 contest at Great Britain. But on race-day, Hamilton, who has 11 podiums at the track ever since the start of the Turbo-hybrid F1 era couldn't add another to this burgeoning tally. On what was a clearly struggling event for the Great Briton, Hamilton, gladly on Inters at the start was able to soldier on, while his teammate struggled from a lack of traction.
But as the race, hampered by incessant rains, wore on, Hamilton was found struggling with visibility issues coupled with his SF 25 snapping at various corners of the track, an issue that hampered Lewis Hamilton's car handling and its overall drivability. He would still fend off attacks from the likes of Ocon and other drivers to score his best result yet with the Italian team.
