Amidst the India-Pakistan conflict, cricket fans from both countries are optimistic about the return of the Asia Cup with its 2025 edition. Following the conflict between the two South Asian neighbours, there was uncertainty regarding the conduct of matches between both teams however, in these times, a Cricbuzz report has claimed that a formal decision can be taken regarding the distinguished continental tournament next week. In the first week of July, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is hopeful of releasing the schedule of the tournament. If everything goes ahead smoothly, the ACC will look to kick off the tournament from September’s second week.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the top contender to host the marquee event but the ACC is also envisaging to convene it in a hybrid model. India is the chosen host this time, but ACC has come to the conclusion that whenever India and Pakistan will get the hosting rights, the competition will be conducted in a neutral venue to avoid disputes.
India-Pakistan cricket ties seem to continue following the Pahalgam terror attack
Following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor, it seemed like India and Pakistan won’t face each other in the upcoming multilateral tournaments. The voices for boycott were louder in India regarding matches related to Pakistan, but recent updates show the cricketing ties between both neighbours will remain unaffected.
Recently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the schedules for its two main events: the Women's ODI World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, and the Women's T20 World Cup in England. In both competitions, India and Pakistan will lock horns against each other. Noting these developments, it seems like the cricket rivalry will be available for fans of the sport in both nations.
