The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has come to its conclusion with a new winner as RCB defeated PBKS in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3. After the conclusion of the match, all the major awards for the IPL 2025 season were given, including the catch of the season award, which went the way of Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka, who took a stunner during Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the match 43rd of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
It is important to note that the winner of the catch of the season award was selected by a combination of a public vote on the IPL website and the choice of the television commentators. Kamindu Mendis got a whopping 43% of the public vote on the IPL website, which literally sealed the win for him in advance before the television commentators agreed with the assessment of the fans as well, due to which he also earned himself a trophy and a prize money of INR 10 Lakh.
Watch the catch of the season for IPL 2025 here:
When CSK were in an impressive position with Dewald Brevis going all guns blazing, Harshal Patel bowled a slower delivery outside the off stump, which the batter smashed with immense power towards the long-off region with a flatter trajectory on the ball. Kamindu Mendis, who was stationed at the area, anticipated the ball the moment it left the bat and ran towards his left before flying perpendicular in the air to grab hold of it with both hands, when it was just about evading him.
Some of the other big nominees for the catch of the season award in the IPL 2025 were Jake Fraser-McGurk, Riyan Parag, Vijay Shankar, Ravi Bishnoi-Ayush Badoni, Harshal Patel, Corbin Bosch, Aniket Verma, Tim David-Phil Salt, Ryan Rickelton, Rahul Tripathi, Dushmantha Chameera, Dewald Brevis, and Ajinkya Rahane. All in all, the tournament saw some exceptional ground fielding and catching right throughout, mixed with some difficult days for certain fielders in certain matches over the past two months or so.
