Punjab Kings (PBKS) celebrated their entry in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final after 11 years with a party in their dressing room. On June 2, Punjab beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 played at the Narendra Modi Stadium and joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the final of the competition. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer starred with his bat and emerged as the Player of the Match. He clobbered an unbeaten 87 off 41 and helped his side chase down the massive target 204 with five wickets in hand and an over left in the contest.
Following the game, Iyer went to the dressing room where he was given the chance to lead the celebration by cutting a cake. PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia looked emotional as he took a piece of cake and fed it to his captain. He also kissed the 30-year-old’s cheek. Shreyas, after Wadia’s kiss, took a tissue paper and wiped his cheek and left the scene.
Shreyas Iyer will look to become the first captain to win the IPL trophy for two different sides
In the final, Shreyas will look to lead from the front to help PBKS beat RCB at the iconic venue. If the 30-year-old succeeds, he will become the first IPL skipper to win the coveted trophy for two different sides. Besides that, he will also become the only captain to win two seasons in a row as captain, following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) MS Dhoni and Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Rohit Sharma.
Talking about Shreyas’ batting numbers, he has notched up 603 runs in 16 matches at a sensational strike rate of 175.80. With these figures, he is also the highest run-getter for his side. He will be expected to come heavily on RCB bowlers in the marquee contest.
