In the 18th game of the Major League Cricket (MLC), cricket fans got to witness an intriguing match between MI New York and Seattle Orcas at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium. Winning the toss, Seattle captain Sikandar Raza elected to field first. New York opener Quinton de Kock departed after scoring only four but skipper Nicholas Pooran and Tajinder Singh looked ruthless against bowlers and produced impactful knocks from their bats. Pooran went on to rack up his second MLC hundred with the help of 15 boundaries (seven fours and eight maximums). Tajinder also scored a quick 95 off just 35. His innings was studded with eight fours and eight sixes. Pooran remained unbeaten with his score of 108 which came in just 60 balls.

Chasing the target, Orcas lost opener Jason Brown early but Kyle Mayer showcased his fierce side and scored a rapid 37 off 20. Skipper Sikandar Raza also accumulated quick 30 runs off just nine balls. Heinrich Klaasen also didn’t show mercy towards bowlers and struck 26 off 13. Shimron Hetmyer showed nerves of steel and played a 97-run innings off just 40 balls and took his side home. On the final delivery, when Seattle needed six off one, Hetmyer didn’t lose hope and scored a maximum off Pollard’s delivery. Riding on his innings, Orcas sealed a three-wicket win.

Orcas’ maiden win in MLC 2025

The success against MI New York marked Seattle’s maiden triumph in MLC 2025. Hetmyer became the recipient of the Player of the Match (POTM) award for his batting heroics. Orcas are currently in the fifth spot on the points tally with one win in six games. With latest victory, Seattle also broke the 10-match losing streak.

Similarly, MI New York also have won only one game in their six outings and they are holding fourth place on the points table. MI’s next clash will be against Texas Super Kings while Seattle’s next game is against LA Knight Riders at the same venue. Knight Riders are at the bottom of the points table.
