The Indian cricket team started the first day of the Lord’s Test in London on a good note as Nitish Kumar Reddy provided early breakthroughs. In his first over, he dismissed Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, sending the English opening pair back in the pavilion. Pulling back the pace of the ball worked successfully in Duckett’s dismissal and it was the late swing that Crawley couldn’t figure out and gave an edge. Both the wickets were caught outs by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

But, in an unfortunate incident in the post-lunch session, Rishabh Pant was seen leaving the field. He is replaced by the substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. On the first ball of the 34th over, Bumrah bowled a full-length delivery angling down the leg stump, in an attempt to flick it Ollie Pope missed it. Pant dived across but failed to gather it, the ball smashed him on the fingertips of his left hand. The play was also halted for some time as he was in a lot of pain. The physio assessed the situation.

In the meanwhile, a signal to the substitute wicket keeper was given to get ready. Pant left the field after the over was finished, and he was replaced by substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

England slowly gaining momentum after loss of openers’ dismissal in Lord's Test

After the dismissal of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, it is the pair of Joe Root and Ollie Pope, who are at the crease for England during the post-lunch session. Both the batsmen are batting quite slowly, appearing to provide stability to the batting line-up after the two quick dismissals. Both of them have stitched a good 50+ partnership.

In a statistic shared by Cricbuzz, England have batted 72 times in the Bazball era and this is just the second instance of them going under three runs per over in the first 40 overs of their innings.
