The defending champions Australia are taking on South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 at Lords Cricket Ground in London. However, the Aussies didn’t get a good start on day one as they were bowled out for 212 runs in 56.4 overs. Steve Smith (66 off 112) and Beau Webster (72 off 92) came up with fifties as Australia crossed the 200-run, Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada came up with a five-wicket haul as the Proteas bowlers dominated for most of the time on day one.
However, despite not getting a big total on board, Australia got a flying start as star fast bowler Mitchell Starc dismissed Aiden Markram in the first over of South Africa’s innings. After facing the first five balls of the over, Markram tried to punch Starc’s outside off delivery through the line. However, the ball found the inside edge of Markram’s bat and went on to hit stumps as the Proteas lost their first wicket without any run on board. Starc struck to give Australia a first breakthrough.

Steve Smith and Beau Webster’s partnership guide Australia to 212
Talking about the match so far, Australia were restricted to 67/4 after South Africa put them to bat first after winning the toss. After that, Steve Smith and Beau Webster took charge of the innings and put up a partnership of 79 runs for the fifth wicket. Smith came up with his 42nd Test fifty and got out after scoring 66 runs off 112 balls hitting 10 boundaries.
On the other hand, Webster turned out to be a top scorer with 72 runs off 92 balls hitting 11 boundaries. However, after the partnership was broken, none of the other Australian batters could stay at the crease for long as the defending champions were bowled out for 212 runs in 56.4 overs. Rabada took the final wicket to complete his fifer as he ended with the figures of 5/51. In reply, South Africa lost two wickets 10 overs so far.
