Team India went through unprecedented collapse on the second day of the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. On Day 2, the pair of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant continued their partnership from where they left off on the first day, adding 72 more runs. Gill, who was going close to scoring his 150+, strove to play a huge stroke against Shoaib Bashir but couldn’t get success as the ball landed in Josh Tongue’s hand, who was deployed at the deep. Gill went back to the dugout after scoring 147 with the help of 20 boundaries (19 fours and a maximum). With Gill’s dismissal, the India skipper’s stand with his vice-captain ended after scoring 209 runs together.

After the 25-year-old’s fall, Karun Nair couldn’t be impactful as he lost his wicket on a four-ball duck. Nair made a comeback in Team India after eight years but he couldn’t make his return memorable. Rishabh Pant, who was looking to be more ferocious, also got trapped by Josh Tongue. The southpaw’s innings concluded after scoring 134. Bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur also failed to justify his role as a batter after amassing only one run. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj faced the wrath of Tongue and got dismissed in quick succession. India lost their last seven batters in 41 runs. Josh Tongue and Ben Stokes got four wickets respectively in the innings, while Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir got one wicket apiece.

Jasprit Bumrah delivers early breakthrough to India in England's first innigns

Jasprit Bumrah has delivered the first breakthrough to India in the form of Zak Crawley, who got caught at the slips by Karun Nair and ended his innings after scoring only four runs. As of this writing, Ben Duckett (unbeaten 15 off 14) and Ollie Pope (unbeaten 19 off 16) are at the crease and England have hoarded 39/1 in six overs in their first innings.

India will expect their other bowlers to assist Jasprit Bumrah to deliver a tough time to the hosts. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Bumrah stood as a lone warrior against Australia. This time, Bumrah will want support from his other colleagues as well.
