In a rain affected encounter in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, Donovan Ferreira turned out to be a star as Texas Super Kings (TSK) defeated Washington Freedom (WAF) by 43 runs in a five-over match at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill on July 3. Notably, Ferreira came to bat as a replacement after opening batter Daryl Mitchell retired himself out after scoring six runs off five balls. Ferreira was a part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 and played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025

Coming to bat first after the match was reduced to five overs, TSK lost their skipper Marcus Stoinis in the very first over with just two runs on board. In the third over, the management also decided to retire Mitchell out who was one six runs after facing five deliveries. After that, Shubham Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira went on to smash 53 runs together in the last two overs. Ranjane remained unbeaten on 39*(14) runs with four fours and three sixes while Ferreira smashed 37*(9) runs hitting five sixes.

Nandre Burger scalps 2 wickets in single over as TSK register big over WAF

Chasing the winning target, Washington Freedom were looking to get a flying start as Rachin Ravindra smashed a four and a six in the first over. However, fast bowler Nandre Burger dismissed him on the fifth ball of the over giving TSK a first breakthrough. On the very next ball,, Burger dismissed WAF skipper Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck and ended up taking two wickets in the first over by conceding 12 runs.

After that, Washington Freedom kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 44 runs losing four wickets in their five overs. Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten on 18*(11) runs but couldn’t take his team down the line. Apart from Nandre Burger, Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad scalped a wicket each. With this, TSK now reached at the second spot in the points table.
