In the newest episode of WWE Speed on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), El Grande Americano, who is one of the newest masked luchador sensation from Mexico, defeated Berto to retain the WWE Speed Championship on Wednesday, June 18. After arriving on the scene in the first quarter of 2025, El Grande Americano has risen quite quickly in the pecking order in the promotion, winning the WWE Speed Championship last month.

El Grande Americano is just the fourth WWE Speed Champion in the men’s division, and he put on an absolute clinic in his recent title defence against Berto, the one half of the Los Garza, who had just became the AAA World Tag Team Champion with his partner Angel at the AAA Triplemania Regia last weekend. The WWE Speed Championship match lasted under four minutes, but the high octane Mexican wrestling style was on full display right throughout.

El Grande Americano is speculated to be Chad Gable by many

Although the world of WWE is divided in regards to the actual identity of El Grande Americano, with some of them calling him Chad Gable in a mask, including senior commentator Michael Cole, nothing has been proven in this regard. Many have said it because of the similar physic and tattoos apart from usage of same moveset and ring gear by El Grande Americano when compared with Chad Gable, while neither have put an end to the rumour either.

As far as the WWE Speed Championship goes, El Grande Americano is expected to keep a hold on the title belt for quite some time with his immense technical skill and high flying ability. Moreover, in the next couple of weeks on WWE Speed, the challenger to Sol Ruca, who is the WWE Women’s Speed Championship holder, will be determined with two first-round tournament matches wherein B-Fab will take on Alba Fyre before Thea Hail goes one-on-one against Nikkita Lyons.
