On Monday, May 19, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are hosting the IPL 2024 runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in match number 61 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the Pat Cummins-led SRH are playing for pride, LSG are in a must-win situation in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Coming into the match, SRH won the toss and invited LSG to put score first on the board. On the back of a century-run partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, and a key 45-run knock from Nicholas Pooran, LSG posted 205 in their 20 overs. During the run-chase thereafter, it was impact sub Atharva Taide who was seen opening alongside Abhishek Sharma.

However, Taide departed early, having scored 13 runs, Ishan Kishan joined the young opener in the middle. Sharma, who has been decent this season, reached his 50 off 18 balls and was then dismissed by Digvesh Rathi. The moment came in the eighth over of the SRH inning. After Rathi bowled a googly on the third delivery of the over, Abhishek tried to smash it over extra cover.

But, Shardul Thakur, who was stationed close to the region, completed a good running catch to dismiss the set-batter. After picking up the key wicket, the young Delhi-boy, Digvesh Rathi gave a send off before bringing out his notebook celebration. This gesture by Rathi, turned Abhishek off as the batter stopped and the two players exchanged a few words.

However, the exact conversation is not known, Rishabh Pant, William ORourke, along with the two on-field umpires were quick to intervene and separate them. It is to be noted that this isn’t the first time that Digvesh Rathi has done it, he has been fined a couple of times this season for his celebratory gesture.
