During the sixth game of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 between Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) and Nellai Royal Kings (NRK), the former’s opener Aashiq Kaleel Rehman looked confident with his bat and played a vital role in his team’s 41-run win. The 24-year-old produced a 54-run innings off 38 balls and emerged as the highest run-scorer in the contest. His innings was studded with eight (seven fours and a maximum) boundaries. His knock solidified the foundation of CSG’s innings, which ended on 212/7 in 20 overs.
In the initial stage of the match, a notable event took place between the CSG opener and NRK quick Emmanuel Cherian. Rehman was looking to play a huge shot against the pacer’s delivery but the bat broke into two pieces and the ball went on to hit the speedster’s leg.
Swapnil Singh’s all-round performance guide CSG to convincing victory
Batting first after losing the toss, CSG lost their opener RS Mokit Hariharan in the first over but the batting efforts from Aashiq, captain Baba Aparajith (41 off 29), Vijay Shankar (unbeaten 47 off 24) and Swapnil Singh (45 off 14) helped Super Gillies to post the massive total on the board. Swapnil came heavily on NRK bowlers and racked up 45 off just 14. His knock included seven boundaries (two fours and five maximums).
Defending the target, Chepauk saw the bowling brilliance of Abhishek Tanwar and Swapnil. Abhishek picked up 3/33 figures in his four overs while Swapnil also delivered a frugal spell to his team. In his four overs, he registered 2/26 figures. NR could score only 171/9 while following the giant target. Swapnil also became the Player of the Match (POTM) for his stunning performance. This was CSG’s second consecutive win and they are now currently leading the points tally with four points in two games.
