Tilak Varma, the Indian international, has been confirmed to play four County Championship 2025 matches for Hampshire, with the first match against Essex at Chelmsford from Sunday, June 22 onwards. The Utilita Bowl-based county club have signed the left-handed batter to a short-term deal, to give themselves a boost in the County Championship Division 1 standings, in which they are currently in seventh place with two wins, two losses, and three drawn matches.
In his young career, Tilak Varma, 22, has played for India in both ODI and T20I formats already, attaining great success in the shortest format of the game while batting at the top of the order. Apart from that, he has been an integral part of five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League in the past four seasons, helping them secure the playoffs spot on multiple occasions without clinching the trophy yet.
Tilak Varma will be available to Hampshire from June 22 to August 1
As per the press release on the Utilita Bowl website, Tilak Varma will be available for Hampshire from June 22 to August 1, just before the Indian cricket team reshifts its focus to T20I cricket after taking on England away from home in a five-match Test series. Giles White, the director of cricket of Hampshire, was quoted as saying about the new signing, “It's fantastic to have Tilak available for the next four County Championship matches.”
“He's (Tilak Varma) an exciting talent who has already made a big impact on the international stage and in the IPL, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Hampshire this summer,” he added.
Apart from taking on Essex, Tilak Varma will also get the chance to face Worcestershire home and away along with a clash against Nottinghamshire at home in the County Championship 2025. Moreover, in his First-class career, Tilak Varma has played 18 matches, accumulating 1204 runs at 50.16 average with five hundreds and four fifties in 28 innings for Hyderabad after making his debut for them in January 2019 as a teenage sensation.
