Former India captain and Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid has given his views on the Bengaluru stampede that took place during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) title victory celebration. During the event held the previous week, 11 people lost their lives and more than 50 got injured. The incident shook the entire nation as no one expected the cheerful event to be turned into a tragic one. Following the incident, RCB and the Karnataka Government are facing ire for the mismanagement. However, amidst these scenes, former RCB player Rahul Dravid expressed agony over the incident.
"Yeah, very disappointing. Obviously, very sad. Thoughts go out to people. This is a really sports passionate city. I come from here. People love their sport, not only cricket. People love sport in the city and they've really followed all the sporting teams here, whether it's been our football team or it's been our kabaddi team,” said Dravid to NDTV.
He also added, "And of course, the RCB is a really very well-followed team. So really sad, very unfortunate what happened. And our thoughts go out to everyone who unfortunately was injured and some of them who lost their lives."
Rahul Dravid’s stint with RCB
Rahul Dravid, who is a local boy in Bengaluru, was also a part of RCB from 2008 to 2010. In the inaugural season, he led the side as skipper but couldn’t do wonders with his captaincy. Playing 52 games for Challengers during his three years, he scored 1132 runs with five fifties in 45 innings.
Talking about Dravid’s team Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) performance in IPL 2025, they couldn’t be at their best and ended their campaign in the ninth spot of the points table with four wins and 10 losses. Dravid will look to do changes in his team to extract desired results in the next edition of the cash-rich league.
