In the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final between Australia and South Africa at the iconic Lord’s in London, when the latter side found themselves under trouble after losing Ryan Rickelton early, Aiden Markram stepped up and played a responsible knock. The right-handed batter stood at the crease and built a 61-run stand with Wiaan Mulder for the second wicket. However, in the 18th over of the innings, Mulder failed to hold his nerves and lost his wicket at the hands of Mitchell Starc. Mulder departed after hoarding 27 runs with five fours.
After Mulder’s fall, Markram didn’t lose hope and completed his fifty in 69 balls. It is the 30-year-old Protea's eighth half-century in red-ball cricket. Noting his ongoing courageous knock on the colossal occasion, social media users are in the awe of him. An X user named Ameil wrote, “Fraud, Chokram, Overrated, Overhyped, Cameokram, Worst player, Handsome white quota, Call me ..., whether i score 0, Washed, should be drop from the team, Warra fifty for Markram in an ICC knockout. That fifty wasn’t just runs, it was a slap of silence to every troll.”

With Markram and captain Temba Bavuma at the crease, the Protea team’s supporters will expect them to stand at the crease until the end of the day. Bavuma was impactful in the first innings as he scored a steady 36 off 84. However, his team currently require a big contribution to emerge victorious in the game.
In the crunch situation, Australia will look to hit back to defend the title. As of writing, only Mitchell Starc has been effective with the ball for the Aussies. Currently, South Africa are 131/2 in 35.2 overs, with Markram batting at an unbeaten 61 off 91 and Bavuma with an unbeaten 37 from 64.
