Senior veteran of the game, Ravichandran Ashwin was recently involved in a heated argument with the on-field umpires during the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025. In match number five of the TNPL 2025, while leading his side Dindigul Dragons against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Ashwin had a rare on-field meltdown after being adjudged LBW out by the on-field umpire.

The moment took place on the fifth delivery of the fifth over as the umpire adjudged leg-before off left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore’s over after the veteran walked out to open the inning for his side. After challenging the umpire’s decision, Ashwin was seen exchanging a few words with the lady umpire, followed by an outburst which led to him smashing his pads and throwing his gloves in agony.

R Ashwin fined for his erratic behaviour in TNPL 2025

Seeing his behaviour, the 38-year-old has been handed a hefty fine. "Ashwin was fined 10 percent for showing dissent towards the umpires and 20 percent for misuse of equipment," a TNPL official told Cricbuzz. Moreover, the official also confirmed that the former India all-rounder has accepted the fine.

Speaking of the match, despite Ashwin’s quickfire 18 off 11, and 27-ball 30 from his opening partner Shivam Singh, his side, Dindigul Dragons collapsed and were bundled out at the score of 93 in 16.2 overs. While Esakkimuthu A picked a four-wicket haul for the IDream side, on the back of an unbeaten 65 from wicketkeeper-batter Tushar Raheja, they chased the total in 11.5 overs with nine wickets in hand.

With a win and a defeat so far from two games, the R Ashiwn-led Dindigul Dragons are placed fifth in the TNPL 2025 standings. They will next take on Siechem Madurai Panthers in match 11 at the SCF Cricket Stadium in Salem on Saturday, June 14.
