India batter Prithvi Shaw, who is looking to make a comeback in domestic cricket after a lean patch, has spoken to News 24. Shaw saw himself in immense trouble after getting ignored by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams in the 2025 auction. Things got worse when he was snubbed from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 squad midway. Noting the slump in his career, Shaw is looking to do some major reforms to be effective in the upcoming 2025-26 domestic season. He recently parted ways with Mumbai and obtained the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to join the new team.
Prithvi, during the chat with News 24, said he wasn’t stunned when no team showed interest in him in the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah. The interviewer also asked the 25-year-old whether the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma contacted him during the difficult phase of his career. Responding to the query, Shaw said no senior player reached out to him but Rishabh Pant was in contact with him during the whole journey. "Only Rishabh Pant reached out to me during my tough times," said Prithvi.
Prithvi Shaw last played for Team India in July 2021
Prithvi Shaw hasn’t played any international game for Team India for the last four years. In 2021, he last donned Team India’s jersey in a T20 International (T20I) game against Sri Lanka held in Colombo. In that game, he got dismissed on a one-ball duck and following that contest, he was dropped from the side.
Prithvi’s last appearance in competitive cricket happened recently for North Mumbai Panthers (NMP) in the Mumbai T20 League 2025 held this month. He emerged as the highest run-scorer for his team, accumulating 137 runs in five games. Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer also registered their appearances in the local Mumbai league, serving their respective teams.
