Former Indian Batsman Sourav Ganguly is celebrating his 53rd birthday on July 8, 2025. He is regarded as one of India's most successful cricket captains. As captain, he led the Indian national team to win the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy jointly with Sri Lanka and reach the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2004 Asia Cup. He is popularly called the Maharaja of Indian Cricket & is regarded by many as ‘Dada’
Sourav Ganguly has played for India from 1992 to 2008 in his international career. In these 16 years, Ganguly has played 113 Tests, 311 ODIs, 1 T20 for India scoring 18,575 runs across all the three formats. Ganguly was awarded the fourth highest Indian civilian award, Padma Shri in 2004. He was also elected as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019.
On 6 November 2008, Ganguly announced his retirement from International cricket. He later went on to retire from all formats of the game which includes the Domestic format and the IPL on 29 October 2012.

Sourav Ganguly scored a century on his test debut at the Lord’s in the year 1996. Ganguly scored 11363 runs in his ODI career which stands at ninth position in the world for most runs scored in ODI matches. He was the third batsman to cross the 10,000 runs in One day cricket, after Sachin Tendulkar and Inzamam Ul Haq. He also holds the record for the highest score in an innings which is 183 runs by an Indian batsman in the ODI Cricket World Cup.
Sourav Ganguly also held the record for the highest ODI partnership which was 318 runs with Rahul Dravid in the 1999 World Cup for many years. He is also the only cricketer to achieve the double of more than 10000 runs & 100 wickets in the One Day Internationals. His fearlessness and visionary leadership took Indian Cricket to greater heights and won the hearts of many cricketing fans all over the world.
