On July 11, 2021, Novak Djokovic equalled Roger Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slam titles after beating Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in the final of Wimbledon. In the big contest, Djokovic lost the first set after losing to his Italian counterpart by 7-6 figures. The next set witnessed Djokovic snatching victory from Berrettini by 6-4 figures. After the second set victory, the veteran looked completely confident and eventually won the next two sets to record the victory of 6-7(4-7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. It marked his sixth title triumph in Wimbledon.
Earlier, in the competition, Djokovic started his campaign after beating Britain’s young player Jack Draper. After beating the English player, he got the better of South Africa’s Kevin Anderson and Denis Kudla in the second and third round respectively. In the fourth round, he won against Chile’s Cristian Garin. After qualifying for the knockouts, he got more aggressive as he registered straight wins against Hungary Fucsovics and Canada’s Denis Shapovalov in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.
Novak Djokovic has won seven editions of Wimbledon so far
Djokovic, after winning the 2021 Wimbledon, emerged victorious in the 2022 edition of the distinguished tournament as well. With the 2022 success, he won the Wimbledon trophy for four consecutive times. The Serbian tennis star, in his 22-year career, has won seven Wimbledon tournaments.
Back in 2011, he won his first Wimbledon competition after defeating Spain’s Rafael Nadal in the final. In the 2014 and 2015 finals, he emerged victorious against Federer, who ended his career in 2022 with 20 Grand Slams. In 2019, he again gave a nightmare to Federer after winning the tournament’s final.
A total of Djokovic’s seven Wimbledon wins have come after beating Federer on three occasions in the finals.
