Tahila McGrath-led Adelaide Strikers won their second consecutive Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) title on December 2, 2023. In a low-scoring thriller at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Strikers defeated Brisbane Heat by three runs to emerge as champions of the 2023-24 Women’s Big Bash League, with Tahila McGrath also winning her second consecutive WBBL title as a skipper. 

Adelaide Strikers had a dominant season in the 2023-24 WBBL, where they directly qualified for the final after finishing at the top of the points table with 11 wins in 14 matches. On the other hand, Brisbane Heat also finished in the third position at the points table, and then went on to defeat Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers in the playoffs respectively to confirm their title clash with Adelaide Strikers.

Talking about the match, Adelaide Strikers posted a total of 125/5 in the title clash in Adelaide. Laura Wolvadaart was the top scorer of the innings with 39(33) runs, while skipper Tahila McGrath also contributed with a knock of 38(34) runs. For Brisbane Heat, Nicola Hancock scalped three wickets, while skipper Jess Jonassen and Georgia Voll took a wicket each.

Coming to chase the winning total, Brisbane Heat got a decent start but couldn’t continue with the required run rate as the match went down to the last over. With 13 runs needed off the last over, Amanda-Jade Wellington only conceded nine runs, and took two wickets in the last over to register title-winning figures of 3/16. It meant that Brisbane Heat could only reach 122/8 after 20 overs, losing the game by just three runs. Along with Wellington, Tahila McGrath and Megan Schutt also scalped two wickets each while Jemma Barsby put one in her bag.
