As the Wimbledon 2025 Grand Slam is currently going on, Novak Djokovic is dreaming of putting an exclamation point on his incredible career by becoming the most successful singles player in tennis history. The 38-year-old has been tied with Margaret Court on 24 Grand Slam titles since winning his most recent major prize at the 2023 US Open. Despite losing the last two Wimbledon finals to Carlos Alcaraz, it is believed the lawns of south-west London provides his best chance to win that elusive 25th major. In pursuing his goals, many times Djokovic crushed the dreams of all his adversaries.

He did it again on Centre Court at SW19 in the 2025 edition, ensuring there would be no fairytale ending to Dan Evans’ encouraging grass-court season as he marched into the third round of Wimbledon with a dominating 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 win. The seven-time champion Djokovic outclassed the British veteran in what was speculated as his final appearance at Wimbledon. Facing Evans for the first time since the Briton pulled off a stunning straight sets victory against him at the Monte Carlo Masters 2021, Djokovic produced a classy all-round display, served precisely and dealt with Evan’s trademark slice backhand with aplomb in his one-hour, 47-minute triumph. “I think everyone knew it was going to be a special atmosphere today on the court,” said Djokovic.

I think I will reflect when I sip margarita with Federer and Nadal: Novak Djokovic

The match against Evans was Djokovic’s 99th match at Wimbledon overall, and the 19th third-round appearances put him one ahead of Roger Federer for most by any man in the open era. Djokovic jokingly said, “Nineteen times, that’s a great stat, that’s probably almost as much as Sinner and Alcaraz have in their lives.” Experts claim that rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz has helped tennis to move on from the era of Big Three, where Djokovic is the last man remaining while Federer and Nadal retired.

While commenting about them he said, “I don’t pause to reflect, to be honest, I don’t have time. I would like to but I think that’s going to come probably when I set the racket aside and sip margarita on the beach with Federer and Nadal and just reflect on our rivalry and everything.”

In the Wimbledon 2025, world number one Jannik Sinner also cruised into the third round. Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion, faces 35-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff on Centre Court before women's No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka faces British home favorite Emma Raducanu in the late match in the third round. Australian Open champion Madison Keys faces Laura Siegemund on No. 2 Court.
