Karun Nair delivered an injury scare to Team India and their supporters after being struck by a delivery from Prasidh Krishna while batting in the nets a couple of days before the game against England at Headingley Carnegie. Eyes will be set on Nair in this series as he is making a comeback in Team India set-up after eight years. The right-handed batter’s sensational batting performance for Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 has played a vital role in helping him break into India’s 15-member squad for the five-match Test series against England.

Appearing in nine games, he notched up 863 runs in 16 innings and ended up as the fourth-leading run-scorer. A couple of days ahead of the crucial game, Nair was seen sweating in the nets, when Prasidh Krishna’s short delivery hit the 33-year-old’s ribs. Karun was seen in pain but he resumed batting again. His last international Test appearance happened in Dharamsala against Australia in March 2017.

England to enter the Leeds Test with a strong batting unit

England have declared their playing XI for the first Test in Leeds and noting their squad, it can be said that the hosts’ will go into the game with a formidable batting attack. The English team have included Chris Woakes in their 11-member team, which means the home side will have eight players who can make solid batting contributions.

Woakes is known for his unbeaten 137-run knock against India at the iconic Lord’s in 2018. Riding on his scintillating batting display, the English team hammered India by an innings and 137 runs. India will have to be wary of Woakes again as he will be seen spearheading the home team’s fast-bowling unit. The 36-year-old will be supported by Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue to bolster the pace attack.
