Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, the current India No. 1 chess grandmaster, has joined the chess roster of the popular esports club, Team Liquid, ahead of the Esports World Cup 2025. This time, chess will be featured in EWC 2025, and teams all around the world are gearing up for the historic event, signing the best players.
R Praggnanandhaa joins the Team Liquid Chess roster ahead of the Esports World Cup 2025
On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Team Liquid announced the signing of Indian chess grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa to their chess roster. He joins a prestigious lineup that includes world-class players like Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana.
Team Liquid announced an amazing social media video featuring the 19-year-old. The club wrote, “Before chess conquered the world, it was born in India. For centuries, India has shaped the game. Now, it shapes the future. Praggnanandhaa R. carries that legacy forward—and today, he joins ours.”

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is currently India’s top-ranked chess player. The chess grandmaster is the only Indian to win the Tata Steel Chess Tournament after Viswanathan Anand. He also won the gold medal in the open section at the 45th Chess Olympiad in 2024 and was part of the 2022 Asian Games silver medal-winning team. Additionally, Praggnanandhaa placed second in the 2023 Chess World Cup.
Chess will be played for the first time in the Esports World Cup 2025. The EWC 2025 Chess Tournament will take place from July 29 to August 1, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
S8UL Esports will represent India in the Esports World Cup 2025 Chess tournament
S8UL esports, featuring Indian chess grandmasters Aravindh Chithambaram Veerappan and Nihal Sarin, will represent India in the upcoming Esports World Cup 2025 in the chess tournament. Aravindh Chithambaram is placed in the last chance qualifiers of the EWC 2025 Chess tournament in Road to EWC. The Last Chance Qualifier will be played from July 24 to 26, 2025.
