The Shubman Gill-led Indian cricket team is currently locking horns with England in the third Test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. While the Men in Blue came into the Lord’s Test after leveling the series with a historic win at Edgbaston, England won the series opener at Headingley, Leeds. For the unversed, England won the toss in the third Test and elected to bat first.

On the back of a century knock from Joe Root, along with 50-plus scores from Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse in their first innings, they were restricted to 387. Jasprit Bumrah once again stood out with a fifer and etched his name on the Lord’s Honours Broad.

I don’t want to lose out on money: Jasprit Bumrah passes blunt verdict on ball-change controversy

After his heroics with the ball on Day 2 of the Lord’s Test, Bumrah appeared for the post-day press conference. When asked to comment on the ball-change controversy, which saw Shubman Gill get furious at on-field umpire, replied, "And the ball changes, I don't really control that. Obviously, I don't want to lose out on money because I work very hard and bowl a lot of overs, so I don't want to say any controversial statements and get my match fees deducted.”

The Ahmedabad-born further continued, “But we were bowling with the ball that we were given, and that's how it is that we can't change it, we can't fight it. Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes you get a bad ball. That's how it is." Bumrah also shed light on the ball and compared it with what was on offer in the other tours. "More than the pitch, I feel the ball is a bit different because, on our previous tours here the ball was never changed it used to remain hard for a long time. Now, obviously, it's dry, it's summer — the wicket is also hard — so maybe that's why the ball is getting softer. But there's quite a bit of change in that,” he added.

Speaking of the match, after bundling out England at 387, India trail by 242 runs at stumps on Day 2. After they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early, Karun Nair steadied the innings in the middle, playing a 62-ball 40. After his departure, Shubman Gill also could not do much with the bat this time and was dismissed by Chris Woakes. KL Rahul (53* off 113) and Rishabh Pant (19* off 33) will hope to chase the total and put up a considerable lead as they take the crease on the third day.
