Team India batting maestro Virat Kohli and former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh played a lot of cricket together for their national side. In 2008, when Kohli made his international debut, Yuvraj’s career was booming. Three years later, both won the 2011 ODI World Cup together for India. In 2014, when Yuvraj’s Indian Premier League (IPL) career slumped, Kohli got Yuvraj in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and both served the side in the seventh season of the league. In 2017, Yuvraj made a comeback in One-Day Internationals (ODI) after three-and-a-half years with Team India clashing against England in a three-match 50-over series at home.
Virat recently attended a charity event organised by Yuvraj’s foundation YouWeCan in London. At the event, Virat Kohli hailed Yuvraj’s fight against cancer. He also praised Yuvraj’s 2017 ODI comeback under his captaincy. “His comeback after cancer was incredible. I was captain when he returned and played an amazing knock against England in Cuttack — 150, I think. I told someone that day, this feels like watching cricket in our childhood again,” said Kohli. The 36-year-old also added “I have a lot of love and respect for him. I wouldn’t come to an event like this for anyone else.”
Yuvraj Singh’s last few years in international career
After making the ODI comeback in 2017, Yuvraj Singh couldn’t maintain his form for a long period. He was a part of Team India’s Champions Trophy 2017 campaign, but could score only 105 runs in four innings of five matches. His last international appearance was against West Indies in an ODI contest played in Antigua.
In his last series, he looked ineffective with his bat. The star player could amass only 57 runs in three matches. In June 2019, Yuvraj announced retirement from all forms of the sport. With 8609 runs in 301 ODIs, he ended up as the eighth-highest run-getter for India in the format.
