Hours after a massive 336-run defeat at the hands of India in the second Test of the five-match series of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Birmingham, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the squad for the upcoming third Test, set to be played from July 10 to 14 at Lord’s London. The hosts have bolstered their bowling attack, adding another pacer into their lineup.
It is to be noted that the massive change in the England lineup comes seeing them go down in the Edgbaston Test, which concluded on Sunday, July 6. Speaking of the match, after England invited India to bat first, the visitors posted 587 runs on the board, courtesy a double-hundred from Shubman Gill and fifty-plus scores from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja.
On the back of Mohammed Siraj’s six-fer, India then restricted England to 407, taking a 180-run lead. With another century knock from Gill along with fifty-plus scores from KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, India posted a mammoth 608-run target and restricted England at 271, thus winning the game and levelling the series 1-1.
England call-up Gus Atkinson for third Test against England
Seeing the England bowlers struggle massively, England have added Surrey fast bowler Gus Atkinson to the squad for the third Test at Lord’s. The 27-year-old returns into the lineup after recovering from a hamstring injury, which he sustained in England win over Zimbabwe in May.
Atkinson will be joined by the likes of Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse in the pace attack whereas Shoaib Bashir continues to remain the solitary spinner in the 16-member squad.
