South Africa looked magnificent in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final played at the Lord’s in London and emerged victorious by five wickets. They broke into the record books as the third team to win the distinguished red-ball competition. In the final against Australia, their key players Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and captain Temba Bavuma played their responsibilities efficiently and guided the team to the historic win. Markram looked stunning with his bat and also became the player of the match for his 136-run knock in the second innings. Earlier, Rabada grabbed nine wickets to help his team have a command over the game.

Noting the Protea side’s sensational achievement, the cricket fraternity has extended their congratulatory messages to the new World Test Champions. Legends of the game such as Sachin Tendulkar, Lasith Malinga, Chris Gayle, Dale Steyn, and Herschelle Gibbs, among others, admired Temba Bavuma and his men for their dominance in the final of Test extravaganza against the Aussies.

Below are some of the posts on X from cricket fraternity members congratulating South Africa for WTC title win:

WTC 2025-27 cycle to start with Sri Lanka hosting Bangladesh in Galle on June 17

The WTC 2025-27 cycle will begin with Sri Lanka hosting Bangladesh for the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Following this game, both teams will play against each other in the final Test to be held from June 25 to 29 at SSC. Eyes will be set on the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy as well.

Team India, who played the initial two WTC finals, will strive to be impactful under Shubman Gill in the opening Test against Ben Stokes and his men in Leeds scheduled to begin from June 20. Following the disappointing performance in the WTC 2023-25 competition, India will look to have a positive start with their young players. Australia, who failed to retain the WTC mace, will also start their WTC 2025-27 campaign with three Tests in West Indies. They will play their first game against the Windies side from June 25 to 30.
