Punjab Kings (PBKS) couldn’t become the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 champions but their performance was commendable under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership. They displayed diligence and perseverance in the competition to become the leader of the round-robin stage. Shreyas, who led from the front in the competition, will be disappointed as he was close to adding several feats to his and his team’s name. In the next season, he will look to be at his best again to help Punjab fulfill their dream of lifting the distinguished trophy.
This year, PBKS witnessed several magnificent performers and they will look to retain them for the next season as well. However, there are also some players who were expected to deliver match-winning performances but they couldn’t fulfill desired numbers to their side.
Discussing such names, SportsTiger has come up with three players who are highly likely not to be in Punjab’s 2026 IPL plans.
Yash Thakur
Pacer Yash Thakur became a part of Punjab for an amount of INR 1.6 crore. He got two matches from the PBKS team management but could take only one wicket at a terrible economy of 12.15.
Marcus Stoinis
Former Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis played 13 matches in the competition but couldn’t deliver impactful numbers from his bat consistently as a finisher. In the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he was expected to hold his nerves and take his team home but he lost his wicket after scoring only six off two and choked in the pressure situation.
Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell returned to the PBKS set up after five years and he was expected to deliver disciplined performances to the team in all departments of the sport. However, he performed miserably with both bat and ball and proved the PBKS’ decision to bring him in the side disastrous. The Aussie appeared in seven matches in the season and accumulated only 48 runs and four wickets.
